Bath Rotarian Martin Veal recently visited Kenya as Patron of ‘Kenya Thriving’ a registered local UK charity that looks after orphans and vulnerable children near Migori, close to Lake Victoria.
Many of the 44 children the charity cares for are placed at the ‘Harvard Academy’ in Migori. Martin visited with Founder Ken Hart to check on the individual programs and to meet with the children’s carers.
The school has been the recipient of children’s books in English donated to the Rotary Club of Bath. These were passed on by Ken to the school, where they have proven immensely popular, as Martin discovered when he mentioned he was a Bath Rotarian.

‘Kenya Thriving’ works to support the education of children in Kenya facing particular challenges through to vocational college and a professional skill in adulthood. The ability to read and write in English is a powerful aid to the children’s success.
